Dr. Volkmar Dietz is chairman of the board. Dr. Jutta Koch-Unterseher is deputy chairman of the board.

Mission of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH
To conduct basic and applied research in the natural sciences, specifically in the area of condensed matter, as well as, operate the necessary research facilities.
As a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers e.V. (HGF), the company is pursuing long-term research and educational goals of the nation and of society and is involved in the financing process aimed at realizing these goals. The HZB GmbH pursues only peaceful purposes (Gesellschaftsvertrag).
Corporate Governance
In accordance with its operating agreement, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH underlies the Federation’s “Public Corporate Governance Kodex (PCGK).” The PCGK recommends the management and supervisory organ report annually on the company’s corporate governance (PCGK report).
The reports for the past five fiscal years can be found here. The management and supervisory board declare that the PCGK’s recommendations were and are essentially being followed; any deviations are explained in each individual report.
