A week of molecular modelling, scientific exchange and Sardinian summer

13.08.2026 1 min read

In July, Dr. Wenbo Dong, Dr. Daria Stepaniuk and Diego Bitzenhofer Betolaza had the opportunity to travel to Pula, Sardinia, to attend the NGMM2026 – Next-Generation Molecular Modeling 2026 Summer School: Bridging Scales with HPC, AI, and Hybrid Methods, hosted by the Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia (CRS4).

The summer school brought together researchers and PhD students from around the world to explore current developments in computational molecular modelling. Through lectures and hands-on tutorials, the participants gained insights into topics including high-performance computing, molecular dynamics, enhanced sampling, AI-assisted modelling, free-energy methods and multiscale approaches.

As part of the poster session, Wenbo, Daria and Diego also presented their research, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss their work, exchange ideas with researchers from different fields, and receive valuable feedback from fellow participants and experts.

Beyond the scientific program, the week offered plenty of opportunities for networking and scientific exchange in the beautiful surroundings of Sardinia.

Many thanks to the organizers, lecturers and fellow participants of NGMM2026 for an inspiring and enjoyable week!
