Driving Innovation in Solar Thermal Storage: ForMOST Meeting 2025 in Jena

12.12.2025 1 min read

The second progress meeting in 2025 of the DFG research group 5499 – ForMOST “Molecular Solar Energy Management – Chemistry of molecular solar thermal systems (MOST) Systems” was held in Jena, hosted by HIPOLE Jena and Prof. Dr. D. Mollenhauer’s group. The meeting brought together researchers to exchange the progress achieved over the past period and discuss new ideas.

On December 2nd and 3rd, members of the ForMOST research groups from Gießen, Tübingen, Frankfurt, Erlangen, Jena and Barcelona presented their key results, outlining both completed research tasks and ongoing developments within the four research fields: synthesis, characterization and catalysis, computational modelling and devices for MOST.  Lectures and discussions, a lab tour, and a social dinner were organized. From the HIPOLE Jena side, there was a presentation by Dr. Aleksandr Zaichenko, titled “Computational modelling of catalytic processes of BND-BNB based MOST systems”, which became the starting point for fruitful discussions.

Importantly, MOST systems demonstrate strong potential for practical applications. In particular, they can be effectively leveraged to support the creation and improvement of next-generation energy-storage technologies, offering promising pathways for future innovation.

Many thanks to all participants and to the excellent organizers.
