Two exciting and insightful days are behind our HIPOLE Jena doctoral students: on 11 and 12 June 2026, they took part in the PhD Retreat at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin for the first time. Together with around 20 doctoral researchers, the event offered a great opportunity to connect, exchange experiences, and reflect on personal and professional development.
The programme included, among others, the workshop “From Profile to Presence: LinkedIn and Online Visibility for Doctoral Researchers”, a session on career perspectives in industry, and the “HZB World Café” focusing on different career paths after a PhD.
A special highlight was the opportunity to meet in person with HZB’s Scientific Director, Prof. Bernd Rech, and Dr. Kitty Hendriks from the Graduate Center.
Our doctoral students attending were Diego Bitzenhofer Betolaza, Fabian Knötzsch, Moritz Kunze, Dzenna Zukova, and Vikram Raghuraman.
Their takeaway: the retreat was a truly valuable experience, offering fresh perspectives and helpful advice for the next steps in their PhD journey. We would like to thank HZB for the excellent organization and can highly recommend taking part in this event.
