We are pleased to announce the publication of our new article in the journal ChemSusChem!
Our scientist Dr. Sergey Nechausov, in collaboration with the Junior Research Group of Dr. Boris Bulgakov from Friedrich Schiller University Jena, successfully designed, synthesized, and characterized novel sustainable furan-based phthalonitrile monomers.
When cured into thermosets, these partially bio-based resins exhibited remarkable heat resistance and mechanical stability, effectively matching the performance of their conventional, fossil-based analogs.
In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Mollenhauer’s group at HIPOLE Jena, the decomposition behavior of the obtained polymers was validated via theoretical calculations of structure-properties relationships. This work highlights the versatility of furan chemistry in creating sustainable materials for demanding applications in aerospace, automotive, and electronics.
