Achieving climate neutrality within the next 20 years necessitates an innovation boost for the development of highly efficient, scalable, low-cost, and sustainably produced energy technologies. Polymer materials play a central role in this process. HIPOLE deeply integrates and expands world-class expertise in polymer chemistry, materials science, high-throughput experimentation and artificial intelligence with complementary expertise in inorganic/hybrid materials, scalable devices, and advanced characterization.

You have the chance to support our young Helmholtz Institute as a technician (m/f/d) with your ideas and expertise. Your responsibilities include the assembly and characterization of polymer-based batteries (such as polymer redox-flow batteries or printable thin-film batteries), using our institute’s state-of-the-art equipment and advanced technologies.

Your Tasks

  • Processing of battery materials (e.g., preparation of electrodes) as well as assembly of various battery cell types and systems (e.g., coin cells, Swagelok cells, pouch cells, redox-flow cells)
  • Physical and electrochemical characterization of battery materials and cells, e.g., via impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and charge/discharge experiments
  • Responsibility for support and maintenance of laboratory equipment and technical devices
  • Contribution to method development for characterization
  • Support in the procurement and setup of equipment, including consumables
  • Responsibility for general order and cleanliness in the laboratory

Your Profile

  • Completed vocational training as a technical assistant (CTA/PTA) or a comparable professional qualification
  • Proven experience in the assembly and characterization of battery cells
  • Very good knowledge of electrochemistry
  • Strong technical understanding and willingness to familiarize with new topics
  • General computer skills, including Windows and Office
  • Good written and spoken English skills

You demonstrate a high level of motivation, initiative, and willingness to engage with a wide range of tasks. You are characterized by strong teamwork skills, reliability, independence, and good communication abilities. You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary, international team within a diverse and dynamic environment.

The employment contract is limited to 24 months. There is the possibility of extending the contract.

The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
