We are delighted to have recently welcomed the 2023 intake of prospective chemical-technical assistants from the Staatliches Berufsbildende Schulzentrum (SBSZ) Jena-Göschwitz to a two-day practical workshop at HIPOLE.
The intensive chromatography practical focused on the use of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to test the purity of substances synthesized in school lessons, such as salicylic and acetylsalicylic acid. After a well-founded theoretical introduction to HPLC by our experts, the students were given the opportunity to gain their first practical experience with the sample preparation equipment.
This was followed by direct application: The participants carried out calibrations independently, analyzed their synthesis products and evaluated the results obtained. On the second day, the comprehensive evaluation of the analysis data was on the agenda – including assessment of the purity and conclusions about the quality of the school syntheses.
We at HIPOLE are impressed by the curiosity, commitment and scientific interest of the young talents. The exchange with the SBSZ Jena-Göschwitz is a valuable opportunity for us to combine practice and education in a meaningful way.
